Twilight chibi character and product design

Twilight Chibi — Character & Product Design

A character-driven product concept exploring how iconic Twilight characters could be reimagined as a cohesive chibi collectible series. Through character research, silhouette and expression development, recognizable costume details, and merchandise concepts, this project translates a familiar pop-culture property into a playful product direction designed for fans and collectors.

Project focus: Character design, vector illustration, product visualization, and merchandise concepts. Using Adobe Illustrator.

Quick sketches and notes for planning.I did a lot of hunting on Pinterest and Google for different body shapes and facial expressions popular with the Chibi style. This is out of my usual style zone so it took a couple of tries to get the body shape the way I wanted. I was also playing around with different outfit options potentially as well as thinking of the different accessories that I might use to represent these characters.

My goal was to focus on a cohesive style across all three figures and make them distinguishible by using their most recognizable outfits and also by referencing their facial expressions to try to portray their personalities. For example Bella is described in the book as constantly blushing and is almost unsure of herself. I wanted to include an almost wary expression on her face. For Edward, it is described that when he is “hungry” (needs blood) his eyes go completely black. He is also described during this time as “moody”. I wanted to capture this by excluding the eye highlight that I have on the others to make him feel a little less human. For Jacob, I wanted to specifically focus on his look from the second book and film due to him being a larger part of the series from that point on. In that book he makes a drastic transformation, cutting off his beautiful long hair and is often seen in cut off shorts, shirtless and barefoot because he is a young werewolf and his transformations can happen at any time! Meaning his clothes explode...So he is known more for his lack of clothing...and well, his abs.

Accessories Details:

  • Blood bag- type 0 is a reference to represent Bella’s blood type. Her blood is a source of strain in her and Edwards relationship....Obvi lol.

  • Cactus- At the beginning of the first film Bella is seen holding a small potted cactus when she is moving away from her home in Phoenix and moving to Forks Washington.

  • Wuthering Heights Book- This is Bella’s favorite book and in the book series she re reads it over and over

  • Piano- Ode to Edward Cullen (Maybe Rob Pattinsons meme) and his Piano skills

  • The Apple- Iconic Twilight image. It is the first book cover and there is a scene in the first movie where Edward recreates it.

Product Design’s

Team Edward Merch! Bring back Y2K! I think these products would be appealing to fans because of the nastalgia around the “Team Edward” Shirts and other merchendise. When the films first came out it was very common for people to make homemade shirts and accessories in saying “Team Edward” or “Team Jacob”. In more recent years people have started to take on the phrase while pairing the image with meme photos of Edward Cullen so I think this cute, Chibi version of him would actually do really well!
